A Boeing 737 MAX 9 operated by Alaska Airlines made an emergency landing after a cabin panel blowout. U.S. regulators temporarily grounded 171 airplanes for safety checks. About 215 737 MAX 9 jets are in service worldwide, with only 171 featuring the blown out plug door. Other models include an additional emergency evacuation door.
The US Federal Aviation Administration and other regulators have issued directives to ground the affected 737 MAX 9 airplanes for inspections. Airlines like Alaska Airlines, United Airlines, and Copa Airlines have grounded their fleets as they await further instructions.
The international airline community has united in response to the issue, with regulators and airlines in countries such as Brazil, Canada, China, the European Union, India, the UK, the UAE, and other airlines like Copa Airlines, FlyDubai, and Turkish Airlines taking action to ensure the safety of their Boeing 737 MAX 9 fleets.
