Ford reports 7.1% increase in U.S. vehicle sales
From CNBC:
Ford’s U.S. sales increased by 7% in 2023, reaching nearly 2 million vehicles. This marks the automaker’s best sales year since 2020, although it falls below the overall industry’s growth. The company finished third in overall U.S. sales, trailing Toyota Motor and General Motors.
Electric vehicle sales saw a significant boost as well, with a total of 72,608 EVs sold during the year, representing an 18% increase from 2022. The F-150 Lightning pickup saw a 74% sales increase during the fourth quarter, following price adjustments earlier in the week. The Mustang Mach-E also achieved its best annual sales since its launch in 2021.
Hybrid sales were up 25% for the full year over 2022 and 55% in the fourth quarter. Electrified vehicles, including hybrids and EVs, represented about 10% of Ford’s overall sales in 2023. The iconic Ford F-Series also maintained its status as America’s best-selling truck and vehicle, with sales topping 750,000 units last year, up about 15% from the previous year.
Ford CEO Jim Farley expressed pride in the company’s performance, crediting their lineup of gas, electric, and hybrid vehicles for delivering solid growth in a challenging year. The company’s products continue to meet customer demand, and Farley expressed optimism about the future. Overall, Ford Motor’s 2023 sales were the automaker’s best since 2020.
