Hinge founder Justin McLeod explains how the algorithm finds your match
From Fortune:
Dating app Hinge is facing backlash from users on TikTok, who are frustrated with the algorithm hiding attractive profiles behind paywalls. Users are sharing “hacks” to reset their profiles and break out of restrictions to see potential matches. However, Hinge’s founder denies judging users based on looks, claiming an equal weighting of factors used to match people. Hinge, owned by Match Group, is set to hit revenues over $400 million by 2023. The app offers paid tiers starting at $15 per week, along with enhanced recommendations and boosted profiles to entice paid users. There’s an industrywide shift towards paid features, as seen in Match Group’s lower earnings from Tinder and other apps. However, analysts still expect a 10% growth in the industry as more users opt for paid features. Hinge’s CEO is turning to artificial intelligence as the future of the app, aiming for more targeted and efficient matches while still encouraging authenticity in online dating.
