His ex-wife, fiancée and kids are hiding his financial documents. What can I do?
From Dow Jones & Company:
A reader wrote to MarketWatch’s “The Moneyist” seeking advice on how to handle his late father’s estate after he died without a will. The reader’s father left behind a fiancée and three children, and the fiancée has been uncooperative when it comes to divulging information about his assets. The Moneyist advised that the estate will have to go through probate court, and by having an administrator appointed, the family can start the fact-finding process to determine the father’s assets. Life insurance and 401(k) plans will be subject to their listed beneficiaries, and the reader’s mission is to ensure all assets are documented for the court. For more advice on this issue and others, reach out to The Moneyist on Facebook.
