‘I discovered a lot of shady business practices’: I want to blow the whistle on my former employer, but I signed an NDA. Am I doomed?

An anonymous worker revealed that they were misled by their former company about bonuses and pay structure. Despite discovering unethical practices, they are hesitant to expose them due to a confidentiality agreement. They are also unable to accept a job offer from a veteran-owned company because of a noncompete agreement they were unaware they signed. The Federal Trade Commission has proposed a ban on such clauses, while only 10% of employees negotiate them. Under certain conditions, breaking an NDA can result in legal and financial consequences. Noncompetes are more common than most people think, and their enforcement varies by industry and state.
