Jeffrey Epstein documents are unsealed after a years-long battle over their release

From Time Inc.:

Multiple previously confidential documents related to Jeffrey Epstein were unsealed in federal court in New York last Wednesday and include emails, transcripts of depositions and legal filings. The documents were made public as part of a 2015 lawsuit against Ghislaine Maxwell. The 2000 pages of documents and a deposition of Maxwell reveal the names of hundreds of individuals. Some labeled as Epstein’s associates have denied the unfavorable allegations. Epstein’s crimes have continued to have repercussions across Wall Street. JPMorgan Chase & Co. penned a $365 million check to settle two lawsuits in which it was alleged to have financially benefited from his sex trafficking and failed to act on red flags. Include emails between Maxwell and Giuffre’s lawyers at Boies Schiller. Preska kept the names of some Epstein victims sealed, saying their interest in privacy outweighed the public’s interest in transparency but released those as well as the names of some victims who did not object to the unsealing and had already identified themselves in media interviews. Epstein was charged with sex trafficking in July 2019 but died by suicide in a Manhattan prison cell before he could stand trial. Maxwell is serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking.
