Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp shocks soccer world with sudden resignation, citing burnout
From Fortune:
Jürgen Klopp will leave Liverpool FC at the end of the current season citing energy exhaustion. His leadership at the club led to an increase in valuation and financial success. The club generated €682.9 million in revenue last season, the seventh highest in Europe. Liverpool currently tops the Premier League table.
Fenway Sports Group, the US owners, bought Liverpool for £300 million in 2010. After five years of struggle, Klopp’s hire in 2015 led to winning the Champions League in 2019. FSG recently sold a minority stake to New York investment firm Dynasty Equity worth between $100 million and $200 million.
Klopp has won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, Premier League, League Cup and FA Cup while at Anfield. He previously led Germany’s Borussia Dortmund GmbH to two Bundesliga titles in succession in 2011 and 2012. Liverpool is seen as the second favorite to win the 2023-2024 Premier League, per the latest betting odds at Paddy Power.
