A week after the Patent and Trademark Office opened the door for Meta digital currency software, Rep. Maxine Waters sent a letter to Zuckerberg and Olivan, contesting Meta’s intentions. Meta has made five trademark applications in the past year, raising questions about the company’s commitment to digital assets and blockchain.

This letter follows a history of conflict between Meta and Waters, revolving around the company’s intention to create a cryptocurrency back in 2019. Despite making headway with regulators, Diem had to shut down, citing regulatory concerns and mixed messages. Levey stated that the company made changes in accordance with regulators’ concerns and was innovative well-designed.
