Most cars in Europe still emit the same amount of CO2 as they did 12 years ago

The European Union’s auditing agency warns that most passenger cars emit the same amount of carbon dioxide as they did 12 years ago, despite technological advances. The EU aims for zero-emissions new cars by 2035, and carbon dioxide from the transport sector accounted for 23% of the EU’s total greenhouse gas emissions in 2021. Electric vehicles have driven a reduction in average on-the-road CO2 emissions.
