Northeastern U.S. braces for the heaviest snowfall in years

From Fortune:

A strong winter storm is in the forecast for the eastern U.S., bringing snow, ice, and freezing rain. Areas of Pennsylvania, the mid-Hudson Valley, and New England can expect the heaviest snowfall. Snow accumulations could exceed one foot in areas of higher elevation, further south, some localized regions could receive a quarter inch of ice.

In the northeastern U.S., concerns about a snowstorm are growing as snowfall droughts have set records in many cities. Boston Mayor Michelle Wu anticipates that the storm could start tomorrow evening and ease up before Monday commutes. Elsewhere, warner temperatures have made it hard for precipitation to fall as snow and storm surges are not expected.

Temperatures have remained warm and doctor Pedro DiNezio, associate professor of oceanic and atmospheric science, predicts climate patterns will mean that snowstorms are less frequent, with more rain occurring instead. Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont says his state has not seen a storm of this magnitude in over two years.

The state is prepared though, with plow trucks utilized to keep the roads clear of snow. Maine was also previously hit hard by flooding and lost power to more than 400,000 customers. Authorities caution that the state may get hit hard by the storm this weekend.
