NVIDIA and Loss Prevention Retail Council Introduce AI Solution to Address Organized Retail Crime
From NVIDIA:
NVIDIA and the Loss Prevention Research Council (LPRC) are teaming up with AI companies to unveil a real-time solution for stopping organized retail crime. The solution aims to give warning of suspicious behavior inside and outside stores, leading to early intervention by authorities.
Concern about flash mobs and smash-and-grab thefts, as well as organized crime syndicates selling stolen merchandise, has spurred the effort. A National Retail Federation survey showed that $112 billion in losses in 2022 were due to theft. Two-thirds of shrink and 67% of retailers experienced violence associated with organized-crime theft.
An AI-based solution with technology from AiFi, BriefCam, and SureView is being employed to identify and track products and anomalies well before theft or violent incidents occur. The solution uses the NVIDIA Metropolis application framework, and offers the potential to drastically reduce store crime.
Developers are collaborating to create integrated AI solutions, including autonomia
In addition to flashes of understanding and arrest, the solution will be highlighted at Lenovo’s booth (3665) and Dell’s booth (4957) at the NRF expo in January.
