Psychedelics are becoming more mainstream as respected academic institutes and billionaires are funding research into their therapeutic benefits. The FDA may soon approve MDMA for treating post-traumatic stress disorder. However, despite the promising therapeutic potential of these drugs, Wall Street and big pharma are hesitant due to concerns about intellectual property. Patenting formulations of the drugs and even things like the furniture in a treatment room are being done, but questions about patent protection still abound.
