Sales of SUVs in India rose in December, while small car sales fell despite high discounts. Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra & Mahindra reported 24% and 39% growth in domestic SUV sales, respectively. SUVs made up 36% of Maruti’s domestic passenger vehicle sales, while almost all of Mahindra’s PV sales were SUVs. Bajaj Auto’s domestic sales jumped 26%, helped by strong sales of entry-level motorcycles during the wedding season. Analysts expect Tata Motors, TVS Motor, and Hero MotoCorp to report their monthly sales data later in the day.
