Sheryl Sandberg is leaving Meta’s board, cutting her last tie after joining in 2008 as Mark Zuckerberg’s chief lieutenant
From Fortune:
Sheryl Sandberg, Meta director and former COO, will step down from the board by May 2024. Sandberg will serve as an adviser but resigns from her last official role in the social media company she joined in 2008. Since then, Sandberg has been instrumental in shaping Facebook into a digital-advertising powerhouse, helping the company reach $117 billion in revenue in 2022.
Oftentimes the public face of Facebook and Meta, Sandberg increasingly retreated from the spotlight as criticism over privacy and content moderation grew. She has since become more involved with philanthropy, launching Lean In Girls and investing in a new women’s professional soccer team for the Bay Area. Sandberg also recently organized an event at the United Nations focused on sexual violence during a terrorist attack on Israel.
