The Singapore stock market ended a three-day slide and finished modestly higher, following gains in the financial and industrial sectors, with the STI now sitting just beneath the 3,185-point plateau. A global forecast for the Asian markets is murky as investors try to balance economic data against potential interest rate changes. The week saw the major averages down, with the Dow adding 0.07 percent to finish at 37,466.11 and the NASDAQ rising 0.09 percent, while the S&P 500 perked 0.18 percent to close at 4,697.24 after job growth raised concerns about potential interest rate hikes. Also, crude oil showed a strong move to the upside, closing at $73.81 a barrel due to fears of a broader regional conflict.
