Tech stocks were mixed late Thursday afternoon, with the XLK rising 0.3% and the XSD shedding 0.4%. The Philadelphia Semiconductor index rose 0.1%. Brenmiller (BNRG) shares jumped 17% on news of a nonbinding memorandum with RSP Systems for the distribution of bGen thermal batteries.

Alphabet’s Google is laying off employees worldwide, including hundreds of roles across various teams. This news caused Alphabet shares to ease 0.2%. Meta Platforms (META) was little changed after a digital rights group filed a complaint alleging a complicated process for users to withdraw their consent to data collection.

Meanwhile, Transphorm (TGAN) jumped 26% after agreeing to be acquired by Renesas Electronics for $339 million, or $5.10 a share in cash.
