Tokyo collision: Japan Airlines flight collides with coast guard hurricane relief plane

A Japan Airlines flight catches fire after colliding with another plane at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, more than 370 passengers and crew safely escaped while most crew on the other plane were killed.
All 376 passengers and crew from the Airbus SE A350-900 have been safely evacuated, and five of six crew from the coast guard’s aircraft have died.

Japanese transport ministry investigating cause and whether any miscommunication occurred in the air traffic control operation.
JAL’s A350-900 fleet seats 369 passengers, flying them in a so-called high density domestic configuration, Airbus said it was in contact with the airline but had no further information to offer.
The root of the cause of the accident will be further examined as the Airbus is the first to be destroyed, check back for further details.

After Tuesday’s accident, Haneda Airport has closed. The hub had not suffered a fatal aircraft accident since February 1982.
