Toyota to roll out solid-state battery EVs in a couple of years, India executive says

Toyota Motor is set to launch vehicles with solid-state batteries that charge faster and have a longer life, says a top official from its Indian unit. Last year, Toyota and oil refiner Idemitsu Kosan announced a partnership to develop all-solid-state batteries for commercialization by 2027 and 2028. The batteries promise a charging time of 10 minutes and a range of 1,200 km (750 miles). Thousands of chief executives, investors, and diplomats have gathered at an investment summit in India, where companies have unveiled investment plans worth $33 billion. Maruti Suzuki, India’s top car maker, will invest $4.2 billion to build a second car plant in Gujarat and add a new production line at an existing plant there. India’s transport minister expects electric vehicle sales to reach 10 million units by 2030. Electric models accounted for just 2% of India’s car sales last year but the national government is targeting 30% by 2030.
