United pulls plans for Boeing’s biggest 737 Max jet after Max 9 groundings

United Airlines Holdings Inc. is rethinking its plans for Boeing’s 737 Max jet after the government’s grounding of Max 9s raised concerns about Boeing’s ability to deliver planes on time. United still has 277 Max 10 jets on order for the decade, but Chief Financial Officer Michael Leskinen said “it’s unrealistic” to expect those jets to arrive as planned. After a panel tore off a 737 Max 9 jet flown by Alaska Airlines earlier this month, the FAA grounded 171 Max 9s for inspection, leading to flight cancellations for both United and Alaska Airlines. The FAA also recommended visual inspections of Boeing’s 737-900ER planes.”
