Venice targets day-trippers by limiting groups to half the size of coach bus

Venice has placed a 25-person limit on the size of tourist groups and banned loudspeaker use for tour guides. The city’s minority population is falling as tourists continue to threaten the character and environment of the historic canals.
Over-tourism presents various challenges to historic sites, like Venice and its reliance on foreign visitors for its income. The city’s 20 million annual visitors have long-term implications for the site and its residents. Venice’s newest efforts to limit day-trippers are not its first moves to curb visits, and Unesco nearly placed the city on its endangered list last year.
