This Valentine’s Day, the must-have gift is a 40-ounce tumbler, causing fights and camping outside Target. The Stanley tumblers come in a popular “millennial pink” color. It is a sensation on social media, with prices for the cups currently fetching $150 to over $400 on eBay.
The tumbler craze has sparked physical fights and camping outside of Target stores, where the limited-edition Stanley cups are being sold. Prices are skyrocketing on the secondary market, with some auctions reaching bids over $15,000. It seems the Stanley cups are the must-have item of the season, reminiscent of past holiday shopping crazes.
The projected craze of these Stanley cups was sparked by a special edition release at the end of December. Sold through Target, the pink and red tumblers are currently sold out on the retailer’s website and Starbucks does not plan restocking any. Videos of the chaos have gone viral on social media.
The special edition tumbler release has set off a shopping frenzy, reminiscent of past holiday shopping crazes. Baby boomers seem a bit less enamored with the cup, while Gen Z, millennials, and Gen X have gone wild for them.
