Toyota leads the pack with four top picks, while Subaru, Ford, Mazda, and BMW each have one vehicle on the list. Electric vehicles like the Tesla Model Y also made the cut.

Consumer Reports’ top picks include a variety of vehicle types at different price points, with models like the Toyota Camry Hybrid, Subaru Crosstrek, and BMW X5 among the top selections. Plug-in hybrids are highlighted this year, with three making the list, showcasing these vehicles as a bridge between traditional hybrids and fully electric cars.

The Tesla Model Y made a big impact in the U.S. market in the past year, with over 1.1 million battery-electric vehicles sold in 2023. Charging infrastructure challenges continue to make hybrid vehicles a popular choice in the U.S. where electric vehicle adoption is still growing.
