Trump’s lawyers have filed an emergency appeal with the Supreme Court to prevent a criminal trial proceeding in Washington. They vow that a criminal trial will disrupt Trump’s presidential campaigns and question the motivation behind the special counsel’s pursuit of a prompt trial.

The appeal directly challenges the prosecution’s claims. Two judges appointed by Biden and one from a Republican president have already decided that Trump can be prosecuted for actions during his tenure and before the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021.

The trial in Washington is one of four prosecutions Trump faces, including federal charges in Florida and in-state court in Georgia and New York. A former president hasn’t prevented the Supreme Court from rule directly concerning him and his legal disputes.

While the Supreme Court justices decide on Trump’s criminal trial, election season inches closer. It will be interesting to see if delays will push the trial past the November elections, as Trump’s legal team aims to stretch out the delay. With the possibility of Trump’s reelection and new attorney general, there is uncertainty regarding his federal cases.
