ESPN, Fox and Warner Bros. launch sports streaming service aimed at cord-cutters

From Fortune:

Three major media companies have come together to launch a sports-focused streaming service featuring college and pro games typically shown on TV. The service, owned by Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros., is expected to launch sometime in fall 2024. It will include ESPN, ABC, TNT, TBS, and Monday Night Football.

The newly announced streaming service aims to appeal to viewers who do not subscribe to traditional pay-television bundles by offering all the major sports content at a price that has yet to be determined. The service will also offer bundling options with other platforms like Disney+ and Hulu.

The partnership marks a major shift of expensive sports programming from traditional TV to online streaming services, reflecting the broader trend of major sporting events moving to streaming platforms. Amazon and YouTube have also been acquiring sports streaming rights, with Amazon hosting NFL’s Thursday Night Football and YouTube recently acquiring football’s Sunday Ticket.
