FAQ: E-mini S&P 500 Equal Weight futures

1. The S&P 500 Equal Weight Index is constructed from constituents of the S&P 500 Index, investing equal dollar value into each name, eliminating large-cap bias.
2. The index has 500 companies (occasionally more) and stock weightings fluctuate with price until reset quarterly.
3. Post-reconstitution, fluctuating tiers in the index are proportional to respective performances.
4. The index differs distinctively from the S&P 500 Index in risk profile, weight, and diversity.
5. CME Group launches the E-mini S&P 500 Equal Weight Index on February 26, 2024.
6. CME Group’s decision to launch the product is due to high client demand for a liquid product with broad market access.
7. E-mini S&P 500 Equal Weight futures will be listed on a U.S. Equity Index futures cycle, expiring on the third Friday of March, June, September, and December.
8. The contracts will be tied to Bloomberg, CME Globex, and CME BTIC codes.
9. Trading hours are Sunday-Friday, 5:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. CT, with a 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. CT trading halt.
10. The daily settlement prices of the E-mini S&P 500 Equal Weight futures are based on the 30-second volume-weighted average price of Globex trades.
11. Final settlement values are based on the Special Opening Quotation (SOQ) of the third contract month’s third Friday.
12. The futures contracts will be eligible for block trading and BTIC.
13. The product will be included in the CME Equity Product Volume Discounts.
14. Margin requirements and fees are available on the CME website.
15. Given the high correlations to the traditional S&P 500, the margin requirement is expected to closely track the S&P 500 futures margins.
16. CME Group plans to introduce a market maker program for the product.
17. Live quotes will be available through CME Group, and other online major vendors.
18. Access to CME Globex requires a relationship with a CME Clearing Member Firm.
19. The CME Group U.S. Equity Index price limits coordinate with circuit breakers provisions of the NYSE.
