Indonesian Presidential Frontrunners Are Wooing GenZ Voters with Web3
From “Nasdaq”:
In 2024, over 60 countries will hold elections, and candidates are targeting younger voters. In Indonesia, facing elections on February 14, candidates are appealing to Gen Z. Prabowo Subianto leads the polls, alongside the youngest-ever vice-presidential candidate, Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
Gibran’s bond with Web3 technology and crypto stands out. The Prabowo-Gibran campaign launched “Konco Kulo Gibran: THE DUO,” a gamified education platform in partnership with Saakuru Labs and other EdTech organizations. The app allows users to engage with the candidates through games and NFTs.
The initiative is part of a broader program, “HILIRISASI DIGITAL,” under the Prabowo-Gibran campaign. It aims to engage the younger generation in high-tech and prepare them for opportunities in advanced technology sectors, with a long-term vision for Indonesia’s “Golden Indonesia 2045” plan.
The Prabowo-Gibran campaign’s use of Web3 technology could set an example for politicians worldwide. A survey by Grayscale Investments found that 73% of U.S. voters think that presidential candidates should have informed viewpoints on innovative technologies like AI or crypto. This indicates the increasing influence of millennials and Gen Z in the electoral process.
