During his speech, Jay-Z accepted the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award and addressed the ongoing issues within the Recording Academy. The award is exclusively designated for Black music creators to acknowledge their influence on the music industry. Previous recipients include John Legend, Dr. Dre, and Missy Elliott.
The Global Impact Award is given to Black music creators who have greatly influenced the industry. Other recipients include Lenny Kravitz and Mariah Carey.
