Millennials are going from ‘hustle culture’ strivers to burned-out middle managers

From Fortune Magazine:

Millennials continue to feel the burn of workplace dissatisfaction years after being stereotyped as go-getters. Job satisfaction ratings have tanked, with millennials rating their satisfaction an abysmal 4.6 out of 10. The discontent is fueled by disillusionment with their employers, a feeling of middle management helplessness, and heavier workloads than promised.

As economic discontent and skepticism of institutions brew, Americans across generations are reporting a loss of faith in their jobs and professions. Millennials, in particular, are facing burnout as they’re caught between traditional CEOs and employees demanding autonomy. Middle managers are feeling increased burnout, and the rollback of pandemic support from their companies has only left them more dissatisfied with their jobs.

Despite the current discontent, there is hope for change as millennials continue to rise through the ranks. Their experiences and struggles may drive greater innovation and lead to addressing systemic issues in the workplace, moving toward a human sustainability approach that focuses on creating greater value for each person in the organization.
