From CNBC:

Super Bowl 58 was the most-watched television show in history, with an estimated 123.4 million viewers watching as the Kansas City Chiefs triumphed over the San Francisco 49ers in overtime. This figure was up 7% from last year’s average viewers, making it the most-streamed Super Bowl in history. The game saw its best postseason viewership since 1998. In addition to the thrilling game, audiences were treated to a halftime show from Usher, a slate of iconic commercials, and celebrity endorsements from the likes of Beyoncé and Tom Brady. The NFL has enjoyed strong viewership throughout this year’s playoffs, with the Chiefs’ AFC Championship game becoming the most-watched ever.

Live sports viewership has remained strong despite fragmentation and a shift to streaming platforms, as evidenced by the high ratings for the Super Bowl and the success of the NFL playoffs. This month, Disney’s ESPN, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery announced plans to launch a joint streaming platform later this year, with ESPN also planning to release its own streaming service in 2025.
