‘News Is Not Good’ For Trump, As Plurality Of Americans Want His Name Off State Ballots: Pollster Says Some Favor Rejection Of Ex-president Through Election

From Nasdaq:

A new poll by the University of Massachusetts Amherst found that 41% of Americans support removing Donald Trump’s name from their states’ 2024 presidential ballots. However, 36% opposed removing Trump from state ballots and 16% remained neutral. There is a stark partisan divide, with 72% of Democrats supporting Trump’s removal, while 77% of Republicans opposed it.

The poll conducted by YouGov surveyed 1,064 respondents, revealing that 58% of Americans believe Trump is probably or definitely guilty of attempting to overturn the 2020 presidential election. The remaining 42% believed he’s probably or definitely innocent. There is speculation that some people want him to contest and be defeated in the general election rather than have his name removed from the ballots.

In addition, 64% of the public wants Associate Justice Clarence Thomas to recuse himself from cases related to the 2020 election. This follows allegations that Thomas’ wife, Ginni, emailed state legislators urging them to overturn the 2020 election results. This is significant as it demonstrates public opinion on the handling of election-related cases.

Donald Trump is facing multiple legal challenges, including two civil cases where he has been found guilty. He’s been told to pay damages amounting to about $89 million, and is awaiting a ruling in a New York civil fraud case, which could come in mid-February.

The U.S. Supreme Court has also begun hearings about Trump’s eligibility to be on the ballots after the Colorado Supreme court ruled that he violated the 14th Amendment. He is also facing hush money and election subversion cases, in addition to a fraud case where he allegedly inflated his assets to secure bank loans.

These facts are crucial as they provide comprehensive insight into the legal challenges facing Donald Trump and the public’s opinion on these matters. They also reveal the broader political implications surrounding these cases, giving a clear picture of where things stand.
