People are wearing Apple Vision Pro headsets while driving Teslas

From Fortune:

Apple’s new Vision Pro headset has a starting price of $3,500, making it popular among owners who have been spotted wearing them in various situations, including while driving. However, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has warned against the use of this VR headset while operating a moving vehicle, citing the increase in distracted driving-related accidents. Distracted driving is a growing problem in the U.S., with over 3,500 deaths reported in 2021. This poses additional risks when combined with self-driving features and the widespread perception that partially automated vehicles are the same as fully self-driving cars, leading drivers to take their eyes off the road and hands off the wheel. A video of a driver wearing the Apple Vision Pro headset while in an automated Tesla has sparked debates about the safety of this technology being used behind the wheel. While some argue that the device’s transparency mode minimizes the danger, it remains a contentious issue due to inconsistent laws around distracted driving and the use of technology while driving. The deployment of face-mounted technology further complicates this issue, similar to the situation with Google Glass in 2013 which led to the introduction of legislation regulating its use while driving. The fate of the Apple Vision Pro in terms of regulatory hurdles remains to be seen.
