Range Rover CEO: UK needs ‘national conversation’ about organized vehicle crime

In recent years, Range Rovers have become popular among thieves due to their “relay attack” that intercepts the signal between the vehicle and its key, allowing thieves to unlock the door and drive off. Consequently, the criminal gangs’ ability to steal cars and get them out of the country is unchecked.
Jaguar Land Rover CEO argues for increased U.K. government measures to protect vehicles from theft, claiming that the current state police operations at ports allows criminal gangs to export and steal vehicles unchecked.
Jaguar Land Rover reports said that thieves have compromised the security of Range Rovers and prices for insurances have soared. Despite this, they have conducted updates on older models with improved software to block attacks and thus encouraged lower theft through 2023.
JLR’s recent announcement came shortly after reporting a strong fourth quarter with its pre-tax profit nearly three times higher than the year-ago period.
