Founder of bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange FTX, Sam Bankman-Fried, faces possible conflict of interest with his new lawyer during hearing in Manhattan. Bankman-Fried, 31, convicted of stealing billions of dollars, may face decades in prison and is scheduled for sentencing on March 28. Federal prosecutors raised concerns over lawyer’s potential conflicts with other clients. Former FTX CEO faces potential conflict at sentencing and appeal with new lawyer. Electric truck maker Nikola CEO and Celsius Networks founder are also represented by Bankman-Fried’s new lawyer. Former federal prosecutor and son of US Attorney General Michael Mukasey is set to represent founder of bankrupt cryptocurrency lender Celsius Networks, Alex Mashinsky, in addition to Sam Bankman-Fried’s case. Mukasey also represented Nikola’s founder, Trevor Milton, who faced fraud charges and was sentenced to four years in prison. Bankman-Fried due back in court for first time after November fraud conviction. Bankman-Fried to appear in court on Wednesday with new lawyer to address possible conflict of interest. Celsius Networks founder Alex Mashinsky also facing charges, represented by same lawyer. Bankman-Fried scheduled to be sentenced on March 28 with possible appeal. Former FTX CEO has been held in Brooklyn since August 2023. Nikola CEO and Celsius founder both represented by Sam Bankman-Fried’s new lawyer.
