Spotify renews deal with podcaster Joe Rogan
From NBCUniversal:
Spotify signs a new deal with Joe Rogan, allowing his show to now be available on other platforms. The multiyear deal is worth about $250 million, and “The Joe Rogan Experience” was the No. 1 podcast in the U.S. for the third quarter of last year. The controversial podcast has faced criticism for its edgy approach and spreading of COVID-19 misinformation.
In the past, Spotify had an exclusive deal with Joe Rogan, reportedly worth over $100 million, but faced backlash for hosting videos of him using the N-word. Musicians like Neil Young and Joni Mitchell pulled their music from Spotify in protest. Despite this, shares of the streaming giant rose roughly 1.5% after the new deal was announced. The move signals Spotify’s continued commitment to podcasting and potential growth for the company.
