Starbucks and Workers United union agree to framework for talks

Starbucks workers at unionized cafes will receive the same pay hikes as their nonunion coworkers, a key step in resolving bargaining issues between the coffee giant and the baristas’ union. The wage increases are a positive move that signals progress between Starbucks and Workers United, with discussions underway on collective bargaining agreements. Employees with two to five years tenure will receive a 5% increase or 5% above market rate, while those with over five years tenure will get a 7% increase or 10% above market rate. Starbucks has also agreed to provide credit card tipping at unionized cafes. CEO Laxman Narasimhan continues to navigate challenges following former CEO Howard Schultz’s aggressive anti-union campaign.
