Survey Reveals Telecom Industry’s Enthusiasm for Generative AI

The telecommunications industry is embracing generative AI as a transformative technology. A survey revealed that 43% of telecom professionals are investing in generative AI as a means to improve business performance. There is growing interest and optimism for AI adoption among industry executives, as well as a strong belief in its potential for contributing to company success.

Investment in AI and generative AI is on the rise in the telecom industry. Customer experience remains the focus, with 48% of respondents seeing it as their main goal for using AI technology. The telecom industry is investing in a variety of AI use cases, including customer experience optimization, security, network operations, and more.

Telcos are still in the early stages of the AI investment cycle, but the trend is growing. The survey showed that more than half of respondents reported an investment of over $1 million in AI in the current year, and that 66% expected their budget for AI infrastructure to increase in the next year. AI adoption has helped telcos increase revenues and reduce costs in specific business areas.

Partnerships are critical for the adoption of AI solutions in the telecom industry. Co-development with partners is the preferred approach for building AI solutions, and many telcos are opting for cloud hosting for their AI workloads. The growing need for localized cloud infrastructure is also becoming evident, reflecting the increasing reliance on cloud-based AI solutions.
