TSX moves lower Wednesday, U.S. stock markets continue to pare back from record highs

Canada’s main index fell, led by base metals weakness, as U.S. markets dipped from last week’s highs. U.S. markets surged last week on Nvidia’s earnings report. Allan Small said the market is correcting, not selling off. S&P/TSX composite closed down at 21,243.77, Dow Jones down at 38,949.02, S&P 500 down at 5,069.76, and Nasdaq down at 15,947.74. U.S. economy grew 3.2% in Q4, a slight downgrade from initial estimate. Tomorrow’s core PCE report is crucial. Bank earnings mixed in Canada, preparing for weaker consumer. Canadian dollar at 73.67 cents US, gold at US$2,042.70 an ounce, and crude oil at US$78.54 per barrel.
