Walmart (WMT) Q4 2024 earnings
From CNBC:
Walmart will report its holiday quarter results on Tuesday, as investors look for insight into the future of retailers and the U.S. economy. Analysts expect earnings per share to be $1.65 and revenue to hit $170.71 billion.
Walmart has predicted full-year adjusted earnings per share of $6.40 to $6.48 and foresees a 5% to 5.5% rise in consolidated net sales.
Holiday sales rose 3.8% to $964.4 billion, but overall consumer spending dropped more than expected in January.
Walmart has navigated high inflation better than other retailers by appealing to families across income levels and diversifying its revenue streams.
In contrast to companies cutting costs, Walmart plans to open or expand over 150 stores in the U.S., upgrade 1,400 existing stores, and increase store manager wages to an average of $128,000 per year.
Walmart also announced a 3-for-1 stock split and shared concerns about potential deflation in the future.
Shares of Walmart closed at $170.36 on Friday, up about 8% this year, outperforming the S&P 500, which rose about 5% in the same period.
