Will Trump’s Electability Concerns Help Haley Catch Up With Ex-president? Here’s What Majority Of GOP Voters In South Carolina Say

From Nasdaq:

President Joe Biden won the South Carolina Democratic primary, taking 96.2% of the votes. New poll results suggest the Republican primary may not be as one-sided, with 58% of potential Republican voters supporting Donald Trump, while former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley trails with 32% support. The poll gathered responses from 815 potential Republican primary voters in South Carolina from January 26 to January 30.

The poll showed that Trump has increased support compared to September 2023, leading among both men and women, across all age groups, and particularly high among white evangelicals and voters without a college degree. Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley was backed by 46% of college graduates compared to 44% who supported Trump.

A majority of GOP voters favor Trump over Haley when it comes to handling issues such as immigration, the economy, and foreign policy. About 60% of Republican primary voters said that the party should keep Trump on the ballot even if he is convicted of attempting to overturn the 2020 election and 62% said they would vote for him in the general election.

Seventy percent of voters expressed the belief that Trump would either definitely or probably defeat Biden in November, compared to just 21% for Haley. Although some primary voters have concerns about Trump’s electability, this group is not large enough to put Haley in striking distance of the front-runner.
