Microsoft engineer warns company’s AI tool creates violent, sexual images, ignores copyrights

An AI engineer at Microsoft, Jones, has raised concerns about the OpenAI model that powers the Copilot Designer’s image generator. This tool is currently rated as suitable for all ages, but Jones has found that it can produce disturbing images, such as those depicting violence, political bias, underage drinking and drug use, religious stereotypes, and conspiracy theories. Jones also said that there aren’t enough resources available to investigate all of the risks and problematic outputs of this technology. Alongside the issue of disturbing content, there are also potential copyright issues as the tool can generate images of copyrighted characters like those from Disney. Jones has expressed his concern about the lack of a reporting system for harmful content from this product.
