AI chatbot Grok made open source after Elon Musk’s promise

Elon Musk’s AI company xAI released the weights and architecture of its 314 billion parameter Mixture-of-Experts model Grok-1, trained from scratch and not fine-tuned for any specific application. The model, trained on a large amount of text data in October 2023, is now open source for public use on GitHub. Musk promised to make Grok open source after filing a lawsuit against OpenAI for allegedly deviating from its founding values. The ChatGPT-maker dismissed the allegations as “incoherent,” while OpenAI defended its transparency and millions of users worldwide.
