AI startup Hugging Face is shifting focus to open-source robotics led by former Tesla scientist

From SiliconANGLE:

Artificial intelligence startup Hugging Face Inc. is launching a new open-source robotics project led by former Tesla scientist Remi Cadene. Cadene previously worked on Tesla’s Optimus project and is now seeking engineers to build real robots in Paris. The move marks a shift from software to hardware innovation for Hugging Face.

The new robotics project at Hugging Face will focus on integrating AI technologies into low-cost robotic systems. The company is hiring an Embodied Robotics Engineer to work on deep learning and embodied AI solutions. This shift towards embodied AI emphasizes the importance of AI agents that can interact with and learn from their physical environment.

Other companies, such as Figure AI Inc. and Sanctuary AI, are also working on AI-enabled humanoid robots. Figure AI Inc. aims to raise $500 million to continue developing its humanoid AI-powered robots, while Sanctuary AI is creating general-purpose robots with AI control subsystems. The race to build AI-enabled robotics that can learn and interact in human environments is heating up.
