Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, will now offer its generative AI chatbot, Grok, to all premium subscribers, including Basic and Premium tiers. The chatbot was previously accessible only to Premium+ subscribers for $16/month. Grok has also been open-sourced for researchers and developers to use, marking a major offering from Musk’s AI venture, xAI.

Musk has brought a lawsuit against OpenAI, Grok’s biggest competitor, alleging the organization has diverted from its non-profit goals and is prioritizing corporate profits, especially for Microsoft. OpenAI denies any contract with Musk and dismisses the lawsuit as frivolous, characterizing Musk as driven by his own business interests.

Grok’s wider rollout is expected at the end of the week. The chatbot has the unique advantage of sourcing real-time data from X, providing humor and understanding in responses. Musk’s focus on enhancing the X platform’s features aims to attract and retain subscribers, amid a decline in visitor numbers and user retention.
