Elon Musk sues OpenAI and Sam Altman, claiming “stark betrayal” of the AI company’s mission
From CBS News:
Tesla founder Elon Musk is suing OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, for allegedly prioritizing profits over benefiting humanity. The lawsuit accuses OpenAI of breaching its founding mission by veering away from releasing its latest AI model, GPT-4, to the public.
Musk claims OpenAI’s ties with Microsoft have led to a betrayal of its original mission. The lawsuit alleges GPT-4 is now a proprietary algorithm of Microsoft, not serving its intended purpose of benefiting the public. OpenAI and Microsoft have yet to comment on the allegations.
Elon Musk is seeking court orders to make OpenAI’s AI models public, prevent them from benefiting Microsoft or executives, and to repay money from dealings. Musk’s own xAI startup aims to develop AI tools for the benefit of all humanity, recruiting top tech researchers to achieve this goal.
