Anticipated flash PMI estimates for Eurozone and UK indicate mixed economic health
From Morningstar:
Financial markets are anticipating the “flash” estimates for PMI in the UK and Eurozone on March 21, providing initial insights into the current economic health subject to revision. The Eurozone PMI composite index for March is estimated at 49.7, with manufacturing at 47 and services at 50.5. In February, the Eurozone saw a rise in the Composite PMI Output Index to 49.2, despite remaining in contraction.
Insights from PMI data influence future ECB interest rate decisions, with service sector output prices surging due to increased wages, raising concerns over inflation and sluggish economic growth. The UK PMI data, alongside inflation and Bank of England rate decisions, remains crucial for investors, as service sector activity shows signs of improvement while manufacturing struggles.
Services are improving in the EU and the UK, with the former still showing signs of a low base while the latter experiencing robust service activity. Manufacturing faces challenges from inflation, weak demand, and high energy prices, indicating a slow recovery process. PMI data in both regions will be closely monitored for economic indicators moving forward.
