Financial Sector Update for 03/11/2024: KKR, NYCB, JRVR, MSTR

In late afternoon trading, financial stocks saw mixed results, with the NYSE Financial Index slightly down and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) up slightly. The Philadelphia Housing Index and Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLRE) were both in decline.

Bitcoin (BTC-USD) saw a 5.4% increase to $72,754, while the yield for 10-year US Treasuries rose by almost 1 basis point to 4.09%. State-level data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed varying trends in unemployment rates in January.

New York Community Bancorp (NYCB) is facing a class action lawsuit, resulting in a 4.4% drop in shares. Meanwhile, James River (JRVR) filed a complaint in court related to an acquisition deal, causing shares to fall by 18%.

MicroStrategy (MSTR) successfully closed a private placement for convertible senior notes, raising $800 million and leading to a nearly 7% increase in its shares. KKR announced plans to acquire mdf commerce for 255 million Canadian dollars ($189.2 million) and take the company private, with KKR shares falling by 1.1%.
