GIFT Nifty indicates a flat start; US markets fall, Asia trades mixed

The market closed higher for the fourth consecutive session on March 4, with Nifty hitting a new high of 22,440.90 before closing at 22,397 and the Sensex ending at 73,872.29. The BSE midcap rose 0.3% while the smallcap index dropped 0.8%. Top Nifty gainers included NTPC, HDFC Life, and PowerGrid Corp, while Eicher Motors Ltd, JSW Steel, and SBI Life were among the big losers. Sectoral indices such as Nifty oil & gas rose 1.8%, Nifty bank and PSU were up 0.3%, Nifty Media was down 1.9%, IT closed 0.8% lower, and FMCG dropped 0.5%.
