The U.S. economy is expected to avoid recession as the Fed adjusts its interest-rate policy. Inflation remains above the Fed’s 2% target, raising questions about when and how the central bank will decrease rates to prevent an economic downturn. Hooper expects the Fed to implement multiple cuts totaling 0.75-1% in 2024, following historical trends. Other experts anticipate rate cuts starting in the second half of the year. Initial forecasts have been revised, with AllianceBernstein now predicting fewer rate cuts in 2024. Despite concerns, strategists believe the U.S. is headed for a “soft landing” without a recession.
