JetBlue cuts routes spanning LAX, South America
From CNBC:
JetBlue Airways is cutting routes as part of cost-saving efforts after a failed bid to acquire Spirit Airlines and issues with Pratt & Whitney engines. The cuts will affect departures from Los Angeles International Airport and flights to various destinations including Bogota, Quito, Lima, and Kansas City. The focus will shift to profitable transcontinental routes and East Coast routes serving Caribbean vacation spots. Vice President Dave Jehn emphasized the importance of every route earning its place in the network. CEO Joanna Geraghty faces pressure to reduce expenses and return the airline to profitability following activist investor Carl Icahn’s involvement. The changes won’t impact JetBlue’s planned capacity for the year, which is expected to be slightly lower than 2023. JetBlue is navigating its future as a stand-alone airline after a failed attempt to purchase Spirit Airlines and a previous partnership falling through.
