Elon Musk sues OpenAI over alleged deviation from agreement, OpenAI denies existence of agreement

Elon Musk sued OpenAI, alleging they’ve deviated from their 2015 agreement to prioritize humanity over profit. OpenAI denies such an agreement ever existed, claiming Musk wants to claim their success. Musk also wanted to merge OpenAI with Tesla years ago. OpenAI denies only acting for Microsoft’s benefit.
OpenAI’s for-profit arm is 49% owned by Microsoft with other major shareholders like LinkedIn’s Reid Hoffman. Musk accuses OpenAI of prioritizing Microsoft over the public. OpenAI plans to dismiss all of Musk’s claims. Musk also allegedly sought full control or a merger with Tesla for OpenAI.
OpenAI is refuting Musk’s claims and accusing him of wanting ultimate control six years ago. Musk tried to give OpenAI a for-profit structure. OpenAI points out Musk’s interest in profiting from their achievements. Musk did not respond to requests for comment.
OpenAI says Musk has no grounding for his claims and seeks to dismiss them. Musk allegedly wanted control or a merger with OpenAI. Musk has not commented, nor has OpenAI.
